The Perry varsity football team ended their season on a high note, after defeating Iowa Falls-Alden 62-13 Friday night.

The game didn’t start great for the Bluejays. After forcing a punt on the Cadets’ first possession, the ensuing punt was fumbled, giving IFA the ball back with good field position. A few plays later, quarterback Tyjon Rose broke a 47-yard run for a touchdown to give the Cadets an early lead. Perry would answer back, however, as a few drives later, they scored on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Alexis Garrido to Brandon Kenyon. Garrido was far from done in the first half, following his first touchdown with a 78-yard touchdown pass to Reece Dunlap on Perry’s next drive. The senior quarterback would then score on touchdown runs of 7, 13, and 1-yard on consecutive drives, as Perry rattled off 33 unanswered points. IFA would get on the board once more just before halftime, and the Bluejays led at the break 33-13.

In the second half, it was all Perry, as Dunlap and the defense took over. Dunlap caught his second touchdown of the game from 10-yards out on the first drive of the third quarter. Two plays into the Cadets subsequent drive, he would intercept Rose and return it 36-yards for another touchdown. The drive after that, IFA was set to punt, but Rose couldn’t control a high snap and wound up kicking it backwards out of the end zone for a safety. With the game on a running-clock following the safety, things went from bad to worse for the Cadets, as on the next drive, sophomore lineman Cole Snyder collected his first interception of the season and returned it 66 yards for the Bluejays’ second pick-six of the game. Perry would tack on one final touchdown on a 4-yard run by Dunlap.

When the clock finally reached zeros, Perry left Cadet field with a 62-13 victory over Iowa Falls-Alden to close out their season. The win brings the Bluejays final record to 4-5, and 3-4 in the district.
