Adair County Health SystemsLast month the Adair and Guthrie County Emergency Management Agency participated in National Emergency Preparedness Month. The campaign encouraged individuals to practice and implement emergency action plans. The Agency will continue its emergency preparedness theme with a training exercise this week at Adair County Memorial Hospital in Greenfield.

Agency Coordinator Bob Kempf describes the training program. “We’ll actually be doing a full scale exercise. We’ll be shutting the power to the hospital down and moving some pretend patients around.”

Kempf and his team will present to hospital staff a variety of normal scenarios in emergency situations. These include: air flighting a patient, transporting a patient by ambulance to the hospital, properly assessing a patient’s condition without power, and properly discharging a patient. There will be no effect on normal operations at the hospital.

The Agency also recently completed weather emergency exercises with area nursing homes.
