Current Jefferson City Councilperson Harry Ahrenholtz is running for reelection to the city council in next week’s election.
Ahrenholtz is retired but does some consulting work in a part-time capacity. He also volunteers and serves on the affiliate board for Heart of Iowa Habitat for Humanity and is on the First United Methodist Church in Jefferson’s Board of Trustees.
Ahrenholtz points out an important topic that he would like to see addressed if reelected to the council, with improving the City’s financial operational visibility with a newly created committee.
“Look at more of the things like, ‘What are the operations doing?’ ‘What are the revenues and expenses?’ ‘What are the gaps that the taxpayers are having to provide to keep the enterprises and the various departments going?’”
He also believes housing is an extremely important issue for the council to address. However, he thinks there needs to be a multi-solution approach instead of one angle to solve the housing issue. He describes why he wants to continue to serve on the city council.
“I just really like working with the people that I work with. Having gotten involved with city government quite frankly, my four-year term was the first time in my life that I had ever done that. I guess I didn’t realize how much I would like working with the people.”
Ahrenholtz is running unopposed with two other candidates for the three available at-large council seats.
