jack-williamsGreene County Sheriff Jack Williams says the countywide burn ban has officially been lifted. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio the burn ban was originally put in place on September 22nd, due to harvest season starting up and the potential dangers of large-scale fires.

“Since 70-80-percent of the crops are out and there’s people already disking and getting black dirt out there, so the concern of the corn field fires has been reduced significantly. So we are lifting the burn ban.”

Large-scale burning of brush and trash is now allowed, but Williams points out that those looking to do a large-scale burns should notify the Greene County Sheriff’s office first.

“If you don’t call in, the fire department is paged out to it. There is a fine for not calling it in. So just please call the Sheriff’s office. Just let us know where you’re burning and when, and save yourself a ticket.”

The non-emergency number to the law enforcement center is 386-2136.
