The development of the Guthrie County Transfer Station has been a focus of the Guthrie County Supervisors for the past few months. Last month the Board hired Jotham Arber as the new executive director of the station. Along with administrative and maintenance plans, the station itself is changing some of its procedures.
Station officials noticed that residents from other counties were making a habit of bringing freon-bearing appliances to the station. It is largely due to the fact that Guthrie County’s is the only station in a 100-mile radius that does not charge to dispose of those appliances. Starting this month, the station instituted a $15 fee to dispose of refrigerators and air conditioning units. Additional fees will also be charged to individuals who bring in more than five tires at a time.
Arber also mentioned to Raccoon Valley Radio that security measures will be increased. “We are incorporating new security systems to keep our staff safe, but to also keep our customers safe. The cameras will allow us to see what’s going on everywhere. So if we have a customer that maybe has something fall on them, or if they get hurt, we can respond a lot quicker so that they aren’t stuck out in the middle of the field or the middle of the garbage and we don’t know about it.”
Arber and his team will be looking at possibly changing hours and other scheduling components at the station. To hear more about the changes at the transfer station, listen to today’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
