Two fires broke out in Greene County Wednesday.
The first one was a five-alarm fire that happened around 9:23am at 1847 130th Street, west of Paton. Greene County Sheriff Jack Williams told Raccoon Valley Radio the fire originated in the attached garage of the one-story home. A heat lamp may have been knocked over and caught some material on fire. There was a female occupant that was inside the home at the time of the fire, but she was able to get out and was treated for smoke inhalation. The home was a total loss and no one was hurt in the incident. The Jefferson, Churdan, Grand Junction, Paton and Gowrie Fire departments responded. According to the Greene County Assessor’s real estate website, the home was owned by Mark Fredrickson.
The second fire was just after 2pm at 1902 290th Street, west of Rippey on John Muir’s property. Sheriff Williams said a combine caught fire from a possible overheated bearing inside the engine compartment. Jefferson Fire Department extinguished the flames quickly to prevent the combine from being a total loss. No one was hurt in the incident.
