After tomorrow, the Dallas County Hospital Foundation will be displaying holiday baskets available for auction.
The baskets were all created by hospital employees and board members, which were made during their yearly employee giving campaign. Dallas County Hospital Foundation Manager Matt Crooks says in the past they’ve had items such as wreaths and stockings for their silent auction, but this year they decided to give baskets a try. Around 20 creations will be on display at the hospital, as well as La Poste and the Perry Public Library, throughout the silent auction. People will be able to bid on them at each location.
In addition to raising money for the Foundation, the employees who created the baskets will also be competing against each other to determine who made the most popular one. People will be able to vote on their favorite at each of the locations, as well as on the hospital’s Facebook page, and the winner will get year-long bragging rights. The silent auction will run from Wednesday through the second week of December, with all proceeds benefiting the Foundation.
Crooks explains what the money will be used for. “So with our baskets this year, the funds that we raise from those individual baskets, they’ll go into our scholarship fund that the Foundation has. And each year we provide scholarships to high school seniors that are going into a medical field in college, or those that are entering into their final year of college with a medical degree of some sort. It could be anything from a lab tech all the way up to somebody going to get their masters in a healthcare-related field.”
