IMG_1715About a dozen Guthrie and Adair County residents listened to the latest Iowa gubernatorial Democratic candidate at the Mary J. Barnett Memorial Library Saturday. Cathy Glasson chose Guthrie Center as the third community in her statewide town hall tour.

Glasson’s platform includes: raising the minimum wage to $15 per hour, implementing universal health care, increasing funds for public education, improving water quality, and limiting corporate farms. Glasson told the group that in her opinion, raising the minimum wage and improving the standard of living should be the governor’s primary job. Glasson explains the steps she would take to accomplish that task. “As my first day as Governor, I’m going to call on the Iowa legislature to pass an increase in the minimum wage to $15 an hour as their first order of business. It would kick in over a three year period and then be indexed to inflation moving forward.”

Glasson is the seventh candidate to declare her intent to seek the Democratic nomination. Glasson, originally from the Milford and Spencer area, is currently a nurse and president of a local Service Employees International Union Chapter. Glasson is endorsed by Iowa Citizens for Community Improvement Political Action Committee (CCI PAC).
