It’s uncommon to see high school sports programs go through two separate practices on the same day. Since taking over the West Central Valley girls basketball program four years ago, Drew Stonewall has made it an annual tradition to have two a days during the first week of preseason practice. He says he likes having the first week of instruction laid out this way because you get nine or ten practice sessions in a five-day timeframe.
Stonewall said he held a morning and afternoon practice every day last week and was able to see improvement by the end of the week. “I was very pleased with how the week went. I thought we got a lot better.” Stonewall said, “My assistant, Bob Hasty, and I were talking on Friday about how much better we looked on Friday compared to Monday. It’s the type of conversation you want to have at the end of the week.”
Stonewall added he was pleased with how the work in practice translated to scrimmages last weekend in Atlantic. He mentioned ball movement as a big positive from the scrimmages. The West Central Valley girls basketball team opens the 2017-18 season on Tuesday at home versus Nodaway Valley.
