new opportunitiesWith the holiday season right around the corner, applications are still being accepted for Greene County residents looking to make their holidays brighter.

Greene New Opportunities and Adopt-A-Family are accepting applications for their annual holiday food basket and Toys for Tots drives. New Opportunities Coordinator Teresa Lansman says both programs are geared toward less fortunate families. Applications are available at her office location at 1401 North Elm Street in Jefferson. Lansman talks about the partnership she has for both programs.

“We are so lucky to be working hand-and-hand with the Adopt-A-Family organization and the ministerial association. We’re just a great team all working for the benefit to help out families in need.”

About 160 families received food baskets last year, along with toys from Toys for Tots. As of Wednesday, Lansman notes about 137 children were already signed up. She is asking for new toys to be dropped off at her office. Monetary donations are also being accepted for the food baskets at People’s Trust and Savings Bank locations or at Adopt-A-Family at P.O. Box 364 in Jefferson.

The deadline to submit applications is by Tuesday, November 21st. Distribution of the food baskets will be on December 16th, and Toys for Tots on December 18th, both at Clover Hall on the Greene County Fairgrounds.
