The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors met in regular budgeting session Thursday.
Transfer Station Executive Director Jotham Arber continued his work with the Board on developing the station’s action plan. The station has ordered a new thumb scanner time clock for $150 and will be installing new video cameras throughout the facility. Arber also informed the Board that similar technology will be acquired for Public Health Department employees. Arber is currently reviewing changes to hours of operation, including holiday periods. His preference is to have consistent hours regardless of the season.
The station is also planning on possibly leasing two pieces of heavy machinery. Currently, there is a 2011 telehandler machine, which has accumulated over 10,000 work-hours. Arber would prefer to lease a new telehandler and skid loader for around $16,000. Leasing would allow for a savings of tens of thousands of dollars and would allow for more flexibility in terms of machinery updates. Of the four manufacturers the station has consulted, Arber prefers JCB, as they design equipment specifically for transfer stations and waste management. The Board will wait for official quotes before pursuing the lease options. Arber ended the discussion by informing the Board that there will be non-smoking signs placed throughout the facility and grounds.
County Engineer Josh Sebern also updated the Board on staffing concerns. The Board approved one equipment operator hire and the informal go-ahead to hire a second operator and laborer to get the department up to full staff. Sebern also informed the Board that Gus Construction is nearly complete with two box culvert projects.
