Jefferson City Council 11_14The City of Jefferson recently created a new committee.

Mayor Craig Berry announced at a city council meeting last month the establishment of the “financial committee.” Council member Harry Ahrenholtz serves on the committee and says he believes the City needs to be more visible with operational finances.

“Look at more of the things like what are the operations doing, what are the revenues, expenses and what are the gaps that the taxpayers are having to provide to keep the enterprises and the various departments going.”

Ahrenholtz commends the department heads for the work they do, but he would like to see the financials get more visibility.

“These department heads really are cognizant of optimizing on their revenues and watching their expenses. But I think some of that visibility is not hitting out into the public the way it needs to be.”

There will be a quarterly financial report made at a regular council meeting. Earlier this week, the first such report was discussed by the Council. To find the report, click the link below.
