The 2017 Class 1A state football championship trophy will make a home in southern Dallas County.The No. 3 Van Meter Bulldogs (13-0) won the school’s first football championship over the No. 4 Iowa City Regina Regals (10-3) Friday morning, 28-7. The Bulldogs offense generated 317 total yards in the title game, including 241 yards rushing. Carson Rhoads carried the football 30 times for 125 yards and a pair of touchdowns. Van Meter’s defense held Regina to 230 total offensive yards, intercepting three passes. The victory closes Van Meter’s season at 13-0.
