The Dallas County Sheriff’s Office will be hosting two benevolent giving programs once again this holiday season, and they are in need of nominations for families and children in need.
The 22nd annual Shop with a Cop and Food Baskets programs are returning this December, and the public will help decide who gets to participate. The Sheriff’s Office is currently accepting nominations of families in need of a food basket or a child who would benefit from a positive interaction with an officer. Submissions can be made online or by picking up an application form at the Sheriff’s office. Only Dallas County residents are eligible for either program and there are a limited number of spaces available.
The Shop with a Cop program takes around 50 kids each year and pairs them with a deputy who helps them pick out presents for themselves and family members. Each child is provided a specific amount of money to spend, and at the end the gifts are wrapped by volunteers and sent home with the child. The Food Basket program delivers boxes filled with meat, canned food, bread, milk, eggs, potatoes, gift certificates, sweets, and toys. The items are donated by several businesses around Dallas County.
The deadline for nominations is Monday, November 27th. A link to the online nomination form can be found below.
