Greene County Medical Center once again highlighted one of its finest with their bi-annual DAISY Award winner.

The DAISY award is given to a nurse that shows extraordinary patient care. Registered Nurse Kelsey Stumbo became the seventh recipient of the award Wednesday at a special ceremony at the medical center. Stumbo works in the medical surgery and emergency departments. She has worked at the medical center for six years. Stumbo was nominated for the award by Sarah Borgeson. She described her initial reaction when she heard her name as the winner.

“I was just speechless. I didn’t do anything. I just did my job. I love that family, and I loved that patient and we’ve been through a lot together. I just saw them as my own family so I just took care of them as my own family.”

That type of dedication was exemplified in the other nominees for the award including: Aaron Chalstrom, Bev Morgan, Maria Bretey, Vicki McCool and Jess Brown.

The ceremony started off with a poem from Sandy Atkinson, followed by the “Blessing of the Hands” ritual from Charlene Wolfe. The guest speaker was the first DAISY Award recipient Jenny Taylor.

The DAISY Award happens twice per year at Greene County Medical Center. The next ceremony will be held in May of 2018.
