IMG_1778The Guthrie County Board of Supervisors met in regular session Tuesday.

The Board approved city election recounts in Jamaica and Guthrie Center. Jamaica’s will take place today at 9am while Guthrie Center’s four-year term will begin at 1 pm, with both held at the Guthrie County Courthouse. There’s no cost to do a recount, since both will be done on a volunteer basis. Current city council member Karen Onken challenged the Jamaica election, while Randy Nickel challenged both four-year and two-year election results.

County Engineer Josh Sebern then presented the results of the grant requests through Hungry Canyons Alliance. Sebern informed the Board that the County has received $264,000 for four soil erosion prevention projects. The projects will cost the County an additional $66,000. One of the most eroded areas is near the intersection of 220th Street and Grant Avenue, west of Guthrie Center. The project will start with a stream survey and will include three structures aimed at slowing water flow to keep the soil from additional erosion.

The Board also approved the County 2017-2018 fiscal year budget amendment and a payment for the 2018 Region XII Housing Trust Fund grant. The Board tabled the following agenda items until next week’s meeting: the County 2016-2017 fiscal year annual financial report, principal and interest payments on a general obligation bond from wind farm tax increment financing, and an appropriations resolution for the aforementioned budget amendment.

There will be no Thursday meeting in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday.
