Two local farmers are involved in next week’s presentations with the Practical Farmers of Iowa organization.

Tuesday, November 28th at 7pm, Practical Farmers of Iowa will host a farminar with Billy Sammons from Churdan and Scott Shriver from Jefferson, talking about using a roller-crimper for cover crops. Roller-crimping is a way of terminating cover crops in organic and no-till farms across the state, and Sammons and Shriver, along with Francis Thicke from Fairfield, will discuss their experiences of using a roller-crimper in their fields.

Sammons farms with Joanna Hunter and they are in the process of transitioning to organic certification and are using many no-till principals. Sammons has used a roller-crimper for two years. Shriver has grown rye cover crops and just started using a roller-crimper this year. Thicke uses a roller-crimper for cereal rye cover crop.

The presentations are webinars and are free for anyone to participate via an internet connection. To participate, click the link below.
