It’s week one of the high school Winter season for varsity sports teams based in Greene County. Greene County opens the girls’ basketball season tonight Coach  Dean Lyons’ Rams play on the road at non-conference opponent Ogden on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalley.com. Game time is approximately 7:30 p.m. with coverage at 7:10 p.m.

Class 1A Paton-Churdan opens both its girls and boys seasons tonight in Des Moines vs. Class 3A Saydel, a member of the Heart of Iowa Activities Conference. Tom Kennedy coaches the P-C girls and Chris Stimson is the coach of the boys.

Tomorrow night, the Greene County girls open the season at home in the middle school gym in Jefferson vs. non-conference Perry, a Raccoon River Activities Conference member. Game time on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com is approximately 7:30 p.m.

The Rams also begin the 2017-18 high school wrestling season tomorrow night. Head coach Mark Sawhill’s wrestlers will be in Van Meter vs. the combined Earlham/VM team as well as Ogden. The home portion of the wrestling season starts this Thursday the 30th in the middle school gym vs. Carroll and Winterset. The first tournament of the wrestling season for the Rams is Saturday, Dec. 2 at Dallas Center-Grimes high school west of Grimes.

Greene County’s boys’ basketball team begins its season on Friday, Dec. 1 at home vs. Gilbert as part of a girl/boy doubleheader. Coach Chris Nelson’s Rams  were 14-8 last season and return three starters from that team plus P-C transfer Joe Towers, a senior and an all-conference player with the Rockets.
