A Murray man has been arrested after assaulting a Guthrie County Sheriff’s Deputy Sunday. According to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office, at around 1:30 pm the deputy attempted to detain Michael Cole Joint in the Kum and Go parking lot in Casey. Joint resisted arrest and assaulted the deputy. The deputy was assisted by a bystander, along with the Dallas and Adair County Sheriff’s Offices and the Iowa State Patrol.
Joint was then transported to the Guthrie County Sheriff’s Office and booked on multiple charges, including: possession of a controlled substance – third or subsequent offense, a Class D felony, attempted escape from custody, operating while intoxicated, driving under suspension, third degree harassment, and aggravated assault on a peace officer, all misdemeanors. Joint is currently being held at the Guthrie County Jail, pending an appearance before the County magistrate today, and is being held on a $5,000 bond.
