West Central Valley Wildcat

Conference and county bragging rights are in play tonight as the West Central Valley Wildcat wrestling team continues early season dual action. The Wildcats will make the short drive to Panora tonight for a West Central Activites Conference triangular against Van Meter and Panorama. West Central Valley enters tonight’s dual meet with a 3-0 overall record, defeating AC/GC, East Union, and Nodaway Valley convincingly last Thursday in Afton. Filling each weight class helped West Central Valley as they received 42 points via forfeit in each dual.

The Wildcats expect to be tested tonight by a pair of league foes. Panorama enters with an identical 3-0 dual record, tallying wins over Coon Rapids-Bayard (55-18), Manson-NW Webster (40-33), and Southeast Valley (61-21) last Thursday in Glidden. Panorama came away as the team champions of the Treynor tournament Saturday with 266.5 points. Danny Nordquist (132), Wyatt Appleseth (138), Emry Colby (145), Noah Kirtley (152), Gunnar Grunsted (170), Trevor Carey (182), and Dalton Holmes (195) all stood atop the podium at the end of the day.

Van Meter is also undefeated in dual action at 2-0, registering victories last Tuesday over Greene County (56-15) and Ogden (63-18). The event features three ranked wrestlers according to the Predicament, including Panorama seniors Grunsted (No. 3 170) and Holmes (No. 8 195) and West Central Valley senior Riley Algreen (No. 9 195). First grapples start at 6 p.m. at Panorama High School.
