In their inaugural year as a whole-grade sharing school district, Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center High School began a holiday tradition of giving back. They will continue that tradition this year with several food drives, collections, and other volunteer opportunities.
Last year AC/GC students were asked to bring in a donation from an approved list of items. These items include: toys, clothing, non-perishable food items, and baked goods. In particular the baked goods were given with meals to senior citizens receiving Meals on Wheels. Principal Shane Arp also explained an alternative students could choose if they couldn’t afford to donate such items. “We told kids, ‘If you can’t afford to do any of those things that’s fine. The day before break you’re going to help us sort the cookies and put them on plates. You’re going to help take the can goods and toys and deliver them that week.”
The program “AC/GC Gives Back” was started by business teacher Bev Mills. The District conducts other similar programs during the holiday season.
