Dallas Co Supervisors 10-17

The Dallas County Board of Supervisors convened Tuesday morning in regular session.

The majority of the meeting was utilized to hold a joint session with the Dallas County Board of Health. The Boards had expressed concerns over hiring practices and wanted to meet to resolve some of those issues. By the time the session concluded, the two Boards seemed to reach an accord, and agreed to work more closely moving forward. Additionally, the Board of Health agreed to post Public Health jobs externally in the coming week, which was where the issues originally arose.

The Supervisors also approved several resolutions, including: amending their contract with DCAT Restorative Justice to add around $48,000; two vehicle purchase requests for the Sheriff’s Office, one of which was the result of a recent accident involving a deputy; the abatement of mobile home taxes; and setting January 2nd at 9:30 a.m. as the time and date for the first reading to amend the ordinance relating to the county’s local option sales and services tax. The Board also agreed to cancel their meeting scheduled for December 26th due to the holiday.

The meeting concluded with discussion on the County joining the Iowa State Association of Counties in litigation against major pharmaceutical companies regarding the nationwide opioid crisis. The Supervisors made no decision, but will consider the issue at a later meeting.
