Guthrie Center SignThe Guthrie Center City Council will meet in regular session tonight. The Council will discuss several topics at this particular meeting, including a possible special election regarding term limits for council members and mayors. Outgoing member Randy Nickel submitted the petition request.

The Council will also conduct the third and final ordinance reading relating to acquiring permits to install fences and garages or other accessory buildings. If the readings are passed with no objections, the Council will then proceed to a resolution setting the fees for such permits. The Council will also select the Community Catalyst Building Remediation Program project they will support through the application process. The Council can only support one project with matching funds, should it be selected. The three projects include: an expansion plan for DICA’s industrial headquarters to allow for more machinery and training space; Main Street Guthrie Center’s renovation of the Williams Building to benefit prospective small business owners; and renovations to rooms at the Midway Motel to attract more tourists and extended stay residents to town.

Other action items include: a 2016-2017 audit report; a source water protection plan through Region XII Housing Authority; county salary adjustments; and setting the date for December’s second meeting. The meeting begins at 6:30 pm in Guthrie Center City Hall.
