Jefferson City Council 12_12The Jefferson City Council met Tuesday night for the final time in 2017.

Following a public hearing, the Council approved a resolution to amend the Urban Revitalization Area Plan to extend the three-year, 100-percent tax abatement for housing. Additionally, the Council approve the five-year capital improvement plan for the Jefferson Municipal Airport with funding for 2020 to be $150,000 and 2021 with $1.3 million. The Council also approved the wayfinding signage proposal for pole locations for the signs from Jefferson Matters: Main Street as presented. The wording on the signs will be discussed at a future meeting.

Also during the meeting, Jefferson Fire Chief Jack Williams and Assistant Fire Chief Dean Promes addressed the Council about purchasing a new fire truck. Williams said the new pickup truck would pump water out at 1,500-pounds-per-square-inch (psi), compared to their current trucks that pump at 150-psi. The truck would cost $127,000, with some of the cost being off-set by selling their current truck. The Council asked to see a formal presentation at their second meeting in January.

Finally, Mayor Craig Berry recognized Councilperson Gary Von Ahsen for his eight-years of service on the Council. Von Ahsen will be moving to Sioux City to be closer to family. Matt Gordon will take his place on the Council after winning one of three at-large seats in November.
