Senior Lexy Koudelka, Nevada’s 6′ 2″ do-everything basketball player, led her team to a 45-21 Heart of Iowa Activities Conference girls’ win over Greene County on Tuesday night. Koudelka scored 21 points on her home floor in less than three quarters of playing time and she had more points than the entire Greene County team when she left the game. Seventeen of Koudelka’s points came in the first half when the Cubs built a 30-9 advantage.
The Rams lost for the fifth straight time and fell to 3-6 overall and 1-5 in conference play. Sophomore Bailey Cunningham came off the bench to score nine points and senior Laurin Lyons had five points before fouling out. The Rams were seven of 40 from the floor including two for nine on three-point shots and they made five of eight foul shots. The Rams turned the ball over 25 times. Greene County was just eight of 44 from the floor on Monday night in a home loss to Southeast Valley (Gowrie).
Nevada, ranked seventh in Class 3A, is now 6-0 in the HOIAC and 8-1 overall and is riding an eight-game winning streak. The Cubs made 18 of 44 field goal attempts and six of 13 free throw shots. They turned the ball over 13 times and went three of 10 on three-point tries.
The Rams end the December portion of their schedule with a trip to Boone tomorrow night. The Toreadors are ranked ninth in 4A with a 7-1 record and are the only team to beat Nevada.
