The first snowfall of the winter season has come and gone. With it came icy roads, cold temperatures, and the necessity to restock those winter survival kits. The winter season is here to stay and Guthrie County Sheriff Marty Arganbright gives some reminders on staying safe on your daily commutes and holiday trips. Arganbright especially notes the importance of staying alert in the early winter storms. “Everyone needs to be prepared for the first time the roads change from year to year. You forget how to drive.”
Arganbright mentioned other tips, including: slowing down, taking extra time on commutes, keeping cell phones charged, and having a basic survival kit in the vehicle. He also emphasizes the importance of heeding travel warnings from the Iowa Department of Transportation and other emergency agencies. “When they recommend ‘do not travel’ then that is a good recommendation and we should all listen to that.”
As always, be sure to follow the Raccoon Valley Radio Network when our Severe Weather Action Team is activated for all the latest storm updates, road conditions, and delays. To hear more from Arganbright, listen to tomorrow’s Let’s Talk Guthrie County program.
