Though they originally didn’t plan on meeting, the Dallas County Board of Supervisors convened Tuesday morning in regular session.
The agenda contained only two items, the first of which was a closed session to discuss pending litigation. The litigation concerns the matter addressed in the second item, which was continued discussion on the bid process for the new law enforcement center. Supervisor Chair Kim Chapman, who had been the dissenting vote for each of the awarded bids at last week’s meeting, brought the topic back in front of the Board. He indicated he would support the complete scrapping of the original bid process and starting over from scratch with the bid letting. He worried about the pending litigation and if they were thorough enough in the bid language when they first let the project.
However, his concerns were not echoed by his fellow Supervisors. Brad Golightly felt the Board effectively acted in the County’s best interest when awarding the bids. He added, he felt comfortable with the prior process and didn’t see a need to re-let the project. Mark Hanson agreed with Golightly, so no action was taken at the meeting and the process that began last week will continue. Chapman said he respectfully disagreed with their assessment, but would go along with the will of the Board.
