Greene County High School began the boys’ basketball season with four players with one or more seasons of varsity experience. Head Coach Chris Nelson knew seniors Wade Adcock and Joe Towers, plus juniors Trey Hinote and Lance Hughes would see a lot of minutes and could score, but who else would round out the eight-man rotation the coach prefers to use. Seniors Jordan Patterson, Ben Bravard, and Ben Wilkens, are joined by sophomore Carter Morton and those eight get the majority of varsity minutes.

Morton is averaging nearly six points per game, which is fifth highest on the team. He’s had as many as 13 points off the Greene County bench and he’s made eight three-pointers in the first nine games. He talks about being on the varsity and his role. “It’s pretty fun. I’m glad I’m playing varsity this year with the bigger guys. I think I’m doing great on defense, but I need to work harder though to be better and stronger. Scoring, I just let it come to me. I can’t push myself. I just let the defense show and let the offense come to me.”

The Rams practice today, then scrimmage tomorrow with three other teams at Kuemper Catholic High School in Carroll.
