In their quest for their first win of the season, the ACGC girls basketball team could really use some leadership. They may have found their support in that category after a tough loss to Coon Rapids-Bayard before the break. Senior Mady Smith, the lone active senior on the team, has stepped up to lead the Charger girls.
Smith averages just over six points per game, but leads all active players in rebounds with 50, assists with 15, and blocks with 7. Since Sierra O’Brien’s injury against Panorama, Smith has averaged nearly eight points per game, including a fourteen point performance against CR-B. Head Coach Aaron Dose knows he can go to Smith in the clutch situations. “Down the stretch, we’re giving her the ball and saying ‘the game’s in your hands take care of it’. She’s at the line late in the game, that’s who we want there.”
The girls continue their quest for the first win of the season at home Tuesday against the Van Meter Bulldogs. You can catch that game on True Country K107.9, with pre-game coverage beginning at 5:45 pm.
