The Dallas County Board of Supervisors convened Tuesday morning in regular session.
The room was filled to capacity with people taking part in the budget funding requests discussion. Representatives from the Library Association, Dallas County Fair Board, Discover Dallas County Tourism, Homecare Services, and the Housing Trust Fund Authority each made their cases for continued funding in 2018. The Board will also conduct budget workshops throughout the week with all County departments, and final budgeting decisions will be made in the coming weeks.
At 9:30 a.m., the Supervisors held a public hearing for the second reading of proposed amendments to the County’s local option sales and services tax. Auditor Julia Helm says the changes simply update which jurisdictions approved the tax and when it will be effective. Hearing no objections, the Board passed the amendments on second and third readings, making them official. A considerable amount of time was then spent discussing a master plan for infrastructure advancements for much of unincorporated Dallas County, though no decisions were made.
The Supervisors also approved several other items, including: an agreement with the Department of Transportation for signage on the White Pole Road Scenic Byway; an engagement letter for the County’s participation in opioid litigation; and pay requests to McAninch Corporation for $138,539.93 and $7,696.67 for completed excavating for the new law enforcement center. The meeting concluded with a closed session to discuss pending litigation.
