The Jefferson City Council met for the first time in 2018 Tuesday night.
Not only was it the first council meeting of the new year, but it was also Council member Matt Gordon’s first meeting. He talked about what he’s most excited for now serving on the city council.
“My city appointments, going to those meetings and getting involved (and) learning more about what’s going on and acting on that. I’m excited. I think we’ve got a lot of good things coming up and I’m glad to be a part of it.”
The Council approved a plat of survey for Region XII Council of Government Housing Incorporated for property they own in the 600 block of North Cedar Street to make additional lots for housing. The Council also approved a $137,736 pay estimate to Pinnacle Construction for the Community Development Block Grant downtown revitalization project, and a resolution to accept donations for the animal shelter project. Additionally, the Council approved all committee assignments for 2018 as presented and a resolution to install a street light at the corner of American Avenue and Highway 4.
Finally, the Council heard presentations on connecting parks and school buildings with a trail system from Iowa State University student Zoey Mauck and the fire department wanting to purchase an Ultra High Pressure Truck. The Council took no formal action following both presentations.
