The Iowa Department of Transportation has been working on a project to advertise the state’s historic roadways through the Scenic Byways program.
One such byway runs through Dallas County, and the DOT asked the County Supervisors to approve an agreement for the signage along the road. The White Pole Road Scenic Byway runs from Dexter to Adair, and the DOT plans to install signs indicating the significance of the road. The Scenic Byways program recently finished designing the signs, which will be placed throughout the state, pending the approval of the counties involved.
The Supervisors approved the agreement, though they stipulated the County wouldn’t use its resources to repaint the white poles that gave the road its moniker.
