The home court was good to Greene County’s basketball teams on Friday night in Jefferson as the Rams took both ends of a girl/boy doubleheader from Saydel (Des Moines). Coach Dean Lyons’ girls team won 55-49 and Coach Chris Nelson’s boys’ squad won 69-52. Both games were heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

Greene County improved to 5-8 overall and 2-6 in conference play with the girls’ victory. Seniors Laurin Lyons and Samantha Hardaway scored 18 and 16 points, respectively. They were the only two Rams to score well into the third quarter as the duo combined for the Rams’ first 31 points. Sophomore Bailey Cunningham added nine points, eight in the last quarter. Onica Delp, Izzy Bravard, and Kassie Lamoureux each had four points. Greene County had 13 turnovers and made 18 of 44 shots from the floor. They were three of seven from three-point range and went 16 of 25 from the foul line. The Rams led by three points at halftime and 10 was their biggest margin, that coming late in the game. The Eagles were led by Hannah Bowman and Katie Schmidt with 12 and 11 points. They fall to 0-8 in league play and 3-11 overall.

The boys’ game saw the Rams lead 19-7, but were up just 31-23 at intermission. Saydel cut it to a five point game early in the second half before Greene County went on a 16-0 run to put it away. Greene County led by 24 points before lifting the starters and playing all 14 players. Zach Bobenhouse of Saydel led all scorers with 30 points, 11 in the last quarter. The Rams had 15 each from Trey Hinote and Wade Adcock. The latter left with a leg injury in the third quarter. Coach Chris Nelson told Raccoon Valley Radio he didn’t think the injury was serious.

Joe Towers scored 14 points with 11 from Carter Morton and eight by Lance Hughes. The Rams were even of 11 on free throws and 27 of 60 from the floor, which included eight of 23 on three-point shots. Saydel was 19 of 50 overall and seven of 23 on threes. Bobenhouse went four of 13 beyond the arc including making his final three attempts. The Eagles were seven of nine from the foul line and both teams had 11 turnovers. Greene County broke a three-game losing streak and is now 7-4 overall and 6-2 in HOIAC action. Saydel fell to 2-12 overall and 0-8 in the conference.
