Perry School Board Special

At the recent monthly meeting of the Perry School Board, one item discussed that was not originally on the agenda was a vehicle purchase.

Transportation Director Troy Griffiths has been hard at work trying to find new vehicles to add to the District’s fleet, and he found a good fit with a 2018 Chevrolet Suburban. Superintendent Clark Wicks says the schools need transport vehicles like this one almost as much as buses. “Our staff and students use that quite a bit. On all the trips that we take, whether it be for the activities, whether it be for workshops, the Suburbans are used extensively. Then we use them throughout the day in taking students to various locations for their educational enrichment. So good news for our vehicle fleet!”

The Suburban was purchased from Bob Brown Chevy in Des Moines for $38,876. It will replace an older vehicle that was used as a trade-in for the new one. The money for the Suburban will come out of the District’s Physical Plant and Equipment Levy (PPEL) funds. At a previous School Board meeting, the new vehicle was determined to be one of the priorities in the five-year major facilities improvement plan. Griffiths has also found a new bus that will work for the District, but still needs to bring back other bids before making the purchase.
