A recent stretch of conference games has exposed a weakness of the West Central Valley boys basketball team that first-year head coach Justin Keck wants to correct immediately. The Wildcats suffered a pair of losses inside the West Central Activities Conference last week, including a 70-24 setback to Guthrie County rival Panorama on Friday.
Keck was a guest on last night’s Karl Chevrolet of Stuart Guthrie County PM Sports Page and mentioned passing as an area the team was going to focus on this week in practice. “(Panorama) just sat in a zone, and we never faked a pass before we made one,” Keck said, “We were just throwing to people’s hands, they were reading our eyes, that just comes with inexperienced at the varsity level. A lot of our guys haven’t played as much varsity (basketball) as most other teams have.”
Panorama tallied a season-high 21 steals in Friday’s victory, snapping a nine-game losing streak. The Wildcats return to the floor tonight in Stuart against Guthrie County and conference rival AC/GC.
