Greene County played its second boys’ basketball road game in less than 24 hours on Saturday. Unlike Friday night when the Rams lost 79-75 in Gilbert, this time the Rams won 70-65 in Webster City. Coach Chris Nelson’s team improved to 9-5 while the Lynx fell to 8-5. The game was heard on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.

The game started with the Lynx shooting extremely well and scoring at a rapid pace on their home floor. Webster City led 21-9 before the Rams started cutting the deficit. It was 21-16 after the end of the first quarter, then the Rams actually went ahead and led 38-35 at intermission. A hot start to the second half put the Rams ahead 49-35 after a 13-0 run that started late in the first half and continued halfway into the third quarter.

The Lynx put together a comeback of their own and got to within one point at 66-65, but the Rams scored the last four points of the game. With Greene County ahead 68-65 and time running out, the Lynx attempted a three-point shot to send the game into overtime, but it bounced off the rim and was rebounded by Carter Morton, who was fouled. The sophomore made two free throws with less than a second left on the clock for the final margin.

The win was the first this season for the Rams over a team with a winning record. Trey Hinote led four players scoring in double figures with 19 points. Wade Adcock added 17 with 15 by Joe Towers and 11 for Lance Hughes.

Lynx senior Jordan Tanner led all scorers with 28 points. Henry Hoversten and Noah McKinney each had 12 in a losing effort.

The Rams are in the midst of five in a row on the road. It’s a girl/boy doubleheader on Monday night in Winterset, followed by Tuesday night’s girls and boys’ games in Story City vs. Roland-Story. The week ends with another girl/boy twin bill in Alleman vs. North Polk. All of the action can be heard on KG98 and streamed on wwwraccoonvalleyradio.com.
