The City of Perry is currently working on an assortment of projects, including two that are frequent topics of discussion during City Council meetings: the 16th Street sewer and sally port projects.
At the most recent Council meeting, City Administrator Sven Peterson gave updates on the two projects. He said the sewer project has progressed well, but has proven more difficult than the contractor, EJM Pipe Services, had anticipated. “It’s taking a little bit longer than they expected. They had to dig down just about about 30 feet to be able to reach that sewer line. When you’re out on (Highway) 141, you’ll see the crane there, because they’re actually going to lower the boring machine into that hole to be able to bore up to where they can actually dig out and work normally. So it’s really kind of a complicated process, but I think the project will turn out just great.”
As for the sally port project, Peterson says it’s over 90% complete, but there’s still a few odds and ends that need to be finished before the police department can start using it. He estimates it should be ready in the coming weeks.
