The Perry Public Library has many services you may not have known about. One of those is a language learning program called Transparent Languages.

Deputy Library Director Misty VonBehren says the program contains a database of over 100 different languages, which is still growing all the time. It contains several English programs, which are helpful to someone whose first language isn’t English. VonBehren says the database also has languages ranging from Japanese to French, or from Polish to Swahili, which could be helpful if you want to travel more.

“If you wanted to go to Norway, for example, and you wanted to learn that language, you can do that at your local library. And it’s all free. It’s just a very useful tool to use that I don’t think that people realize that we have that we would like them to take advantage of it. And if they have any questions, comments, concerns, want to know how to do it, by all means give us a call and one of the librarians will be able to walk you through it, and get you all set up and started with it.”

Transparent Languages is available at the library, but you can also log in from home or on your smartphone. The only requirement for using the program is you need to have a library card, which VonBehren assures you is very easy to get.
