acgcThe ACGC girls basketball team will be back in action tonight in Urbandale against Des Moines Christian. The Charger girls have had a week off since falling to the Panorama Panthers 67-29.

In their 52-21 loss to the Lions earlier this season, senior Mady Smith led all Chargers with six points. However, junior Jadeyn Carrick has been arguably one of the best players in the West Central Activities Conference in 2018. Carrick has averaged nearly 13 points per game in games played in 2018, versus three in 2017. The Charger girls should also have sharpshooter Lauryn Embleton back on the court tonight.

The Lions come into the game with the second best record in the conference, but still 3.5 games behind Panorama. Junior Emma Veenstra leads the way for DMC, averaging twelve points and seven rebounds per game. Veenstra was held under her average in the first meeting with the Chargers, scoring just nine points and grabbing four rebounds. Senior Olivia Penland came off the bench to lead all Lions with 17 points and seven rebounds.

This game, and the remaining handful on the season, will serve as tune-ups for the regional playoffs beginning next month. The Chargers will head to Avoca on Saturday, February 10th to battle the AHSTW Vikings in a Region 7 first round matchup. The Lions are slated to host the winner of the Madrid-Manson Northwest Webster first round game that following Tuesday. Tonight’s game begins at 6pm with pre-game coverage on KKRF2 and the Raccoon Valley Radio network starting at 5:45.
