Greene County High School head football coach Mitch Moore called Thursday “A great day!” after finding out the Rams will be playing in Class 2A for the 2018 and ’19 seasons. The Iowa High School Athletic Association released district football assignments yesterday. The Rams will be playing in District 9 along with Atlantic, Kuemper Catholic (Carroll), OA-BGIC (Ida Grove), Red Oak, and Shenandoah. Greene County has not had a winning season in football since 2011 and the Rams won just one game each of the past two seasons while competing in 3A.

Coach Moore noted that Kuemper Catholic defeated the Rams by seven points last season and Greene County hasn’t played any of the other teams for several years, although all five have been in the same football district as the Rams at one time or another. “Our kids are excited! We’ll be more competitive in 2A, although there are some good football programs in our district.”

The four non-district games have not yet been determined.
