The Perry Chamber of Commerce has one final task before thousands of cyclists descend upon the City, and they hope it will bring even more to next week’s Bike Ride to Rippey (BRR Ride).
Tomorrow, the Chamber’s BRR Committee will head down to the Iowa Events Center in Des Moines for the annual Iowa Bike Expo. Chamber Board member Lee Coons says the Expo will be a great way to create some buzz around the event that unofficially kicks off the bike season in Central Iowa. He adds, Perry will be well represented at the Expo this year, as the BRR booth will be set up right alongside booths for Hotel Pattee and the Raccoon River Valley Trail Association.
“We’ll be down there promoting the BRR Ride throughout the day. They’ll typically get anywhere from 4,000 to 5,000 bike enthusiasts that’ll come through that event. I know Jay (Hartz) will have a booth down there as well, promoting the Hotel. The Trail has a booth down there promoting the trail use as well. But that’s kind of our big kickoff to BRR as we start focusing on this last week leading into that.”
The Iowa Bike Expo will run tomorrow from 10 a.m. – 4:30 p.m. The highlight of the show will come at the end, with the announcement of this year’s RAGBRAI route. The 41st annual BRR Ride will be held next Saturday, with registration starting at 7 a.m. at Hotel Pattee.
