We’re still three weeks away from the start of postseason basketball in Iowa, but the playoff trail is out for the West Central Valley girls basketball team (7-10 overall). The Iowa Girls High School Athletic Union considers the Wildcats a Class 2A school district for girls sports and placed West Central Valley in the Class 2A Region 6 bracket. The Wildcats open the tournament on Saturday, February 10 against West Central Activities Conference member the Van Meter Bulldogs in Stuart. The Wildcats hosted Van Meter Tuesday, falling to the Bulldogs, 54-42. Should West Central Valley advance past the opening round, they’d make a trip to Panora for a third matchup against Guthrie County rival Class 2A No. 3 Panorama on Tuesday, February 13. The regional semifinal round takes place Friday, February 16 and the title game is set for Monday, February 19 in Woodward.
The Wildcats hosted the CAM Cougars in nonconference action last night. West Central Valley lost to CAM, 57-38. Senior Kennedy Lose scored 13 points to lead West Central Valley. Both Wildcat basketball teams will be on the court tonight, hosting the Ogden Bulldogs in a league doubleheader. The varsity girls game tips off at 6 p.m. and the boys will follow.
