The Jefferson Public Works Department has had a busy week.
Public Works Director Dave Morlan says Monday crews were out fixing a water main break at the intersection of Central and Olive streets. Morlan points out the cold ground shifted and broke a four-inch water main. Crews were out repairing the break from just after 5am until 5:30pm.
All day Tuesday and part of Wednesday, crews were back out plowing snow covered roads, parking lots and sidewalks. Morlan says they started plowing city-owned parking lots and the Greene County Community Center at 5am Tuesday. Then about an hour later, two trucks cleared the downtown square of snow and applied sand and salt to burn off the thin layer of ice underneath. The rest of the crews were out at 7am clearing the snow off the roads. They were done by mid-afternoon. Crews were then back out early Wednesday clearing the remaining snow from the downtown square.
Finally on Thursday, crews helped to jet two sewer lines near the Jefferson VFW Hall, due to a sewer line backing up in the facility. Crews spent an hour fixing that issue, which was eventually corrected.
