It was one of the more impressive shooting performances in the 65 years of the gymnasium in Jefferson. Unfortunately for Greene County, it was South Hamilton (Jewell) that put on a shooting display Tuesday night in the middle school gym that is rarely seen in these parts. The undefeated and Class 2A number six ranked Hawks made 82% of their field goal attempts in the first half (18-22) and 70% for the game (28-40), despite playing 14 players. They also went nine of 12 from the free throw line and improved to 19-0 on the season and 13-0 in Heart of Iowa Activities Conference play. Coach Nathan Hill’s team already had the conference title wrapped up before they played the Rams, but looked every bit the part of a championship team. The action was broadcast on KG98 and streamed on www.raccoonvalleyradio.com.
Four SH players scored in double figures, led by Logan Peters with 15 points. Cole Berg had 12 with 11 by Logan Klemp, and 10 from Marco Balderas. After trailing 2-0, SH went up 16-6 and never looked back. The score was 39-20 at the half.
The Rams had one of their poorer shooting nights of the season and were held to a season low point total. Coach Chris Nelson’s team was 18 of 48 (38%) and seven of 16 from the foul line. Senior Wade Adcock had 13 points, with junior Trey Hinote at 10 and nine for junior Lance Hughes.
The Rams play their next three on the road starting tomorrow night in JV/varsity boys’ action in Coon Rapids vs. Coon Rapids-Bayard. Coverage on KG98 and www.raccoonvalleyradio.com around 7 p.m.
