BRR Ride 2018The 41st Annual Bike Ride to Rippey (BRR) is happening tomorrow.

Mayor Dan Brubaker says they typically expect about 1,500 bike riders to make the trip from Perry, up Highway 144 to the small town of Rippey. He points out that during BRR, their town’s population of 300 grows by five-times that amount. Brubaker has been on either the city council of mayor for 39 of the 41 years that the tradition has been going on. Since the first year of wondering why there’s bike riders in February coming to the City, now Brubaker says it’s just part of life in Rippey.

There will be a beer tent at the Rippey Fire Station starting at 10am. Fire Chief Pete Johnson says anyone 21 and over can purchase beer for $3 per ticket or 6 tickets for $15, and enjoy walking tacos for $5 as their fundraiser for the year. Plus, there will be a live DJ playing music in the beer tent.

Other activities include: the Rippey Lions Club will serve a roast beef sundae bar for $6 and chili for $5 at the community center, and the Rippey United Methodist Church’s True Heroes Under God (THUG) youth group will be serving a baked potato bar at the church for $6.

Brubaker adds that there will be law enforcement along Highway 144 to help direct traffic and keep bike riders safe during the event. Bike riders will leave Perry at 10am.
