Jefferson Police BadgeAn Omaha man faces a felony charge for a recent incident in Jefferson.

Jefferson Police Chief Mark Clouse says 29-year-old Max William Pfeffer is charged with a Class D Felony for second degree theft and an aggravated misdemeanor for eluding law enforcement. The charges stem from an incident on January 23rd when an officer tried to stop the vehicle Pfeffer was driving in the 300 block of North Grimmell Road for a headlight that was out.

The vehicle fled from the officer and a chase ensued. Pfeffer had dropped off a female passenger in the 1000 block of West Wall Street and continued to be chased by police. The officer lost sight of the vehicle west of Jefferson. A short time later, a Guthrie County Deputy located the vehicle in Bagley. The deputy gave chase and then located the vehicle parked in an abandoned farm site south of Bagley. Authorities searched the area, with assistance from K-9 Unit, but couldn’t find Pfeffer.

The vehicle, which was later found to be stolen from the Omaha area, was towed to the impound lot in Jefferson. The female passenger refused to help authorities with information about Pfeffer. Once the vehicle was confirmed to be stolen, charges were then issued. Clouse notes that they have applied for an arrest warrant for Pfeffer. Once the warrants are issued and Pfeffer is apprehended, he will be booked into the Greene County Jail. Pfeffer also faces 18 citations from the chase incident.

The Greene, Guthrie and Carroll County Sheriff’s offices assisted the Jefferson Police Department with the investigation.
