acgcIn the wake of the recent shooting at Marshall County High School in Kentucky, a local superintendent shared his thoughts. Adair-Casey/Guthrie Center Superintendent Steve Smith talked with Raccoon Valley Radio about ways the school districts keep their students safe.

Smith particularly mentioned the students’ ability to watch for warning signs. “I would say to all parents and all students out there that it is so important that if something doesn’t feel right in action or in verbage, (you) really need to contact school authorities or other authorities to make sure that we’re all alert. Safety is important to all of us.”

Smith also emphasized the school’s buzzer system at the front entrances of buildings in both districts as ways they are fostering safety. The Guthrie Center School District is also considering granting public access for the high school weight room and gymnasium.
