An annual fundraiser for the Paton Fire Department is happening next week.
The 20th Annual Paton Firemen’s Stag will take place on Saturday, February 17th. The event opens with a grilled pork chop meal for $20, followed by casino games, including blackjack and craps. Included in the night are two raffles. The first is a cash raffle, with drawings for $1,000, $500 and $250. Fire Chief Jonathan Marshall says the other is their gun raffle.
“And this year we’re going to raffle off a 17 HMR Volquartsen. And for people that don’t know the Volquartsen name, the guns are made over in Carroll. It’s very neat how they design the barrels and the woodstock. They are just really neat.”
Tickets for the cash raffle are $15 and the tickets for the gun raffle are $10. The gun is now on display at 209 Main Restaurant. Marshall also describes his favorite part of their fundraiser.
“Probably the camaraderie. It’s just fun to get all the guys together. It’s an all day event. We get up early, we go to Fareway and get the pork chops and take them back. All the guys are together and we season them and hang them up on the smoker. From there on, we usually get to playing cards ourselves and setting up for the day.”
Tickets are available from any of the fire fighters. The event will be held at the Paton Fire Station starting at 5pm. All proceeds will go back to the fire department for equipment purchases.
