Dallas County will continue utilizing the building located at 918 Court Street in Adel for at least one more year.
At the recent Supervisors meeting, the Board once again considered lease options for the facility that currently houses the Department of Motor Vehicles and driver’s license station. However, they had another option added to the lease possibilities, and it proved to be what they were looking for. Supervisor Kim Chapman had been in discussion with the building’s owner, Kevin Bestick, who had originally offered lease options for two-five years, with options for more. After the Board’s original conversation regarding the lease, they expressed the desire for a one-year option as well.
Bestick considered their request and offered them a one-year lease, with two one-year options. The cost for the one year lease plus the options was more expensive long-term for the County, but the Supervisors felt it was best for them to have some flexibility. The new lease, which will take effect on May 1st, will cost $2,979 per month in the first year, increasing to $3,042 and $3,105 in the two optional years. The Board may still consider purchasing the building from Bestick in the future.
Regardless of how long the County continues to lease the building, County Treasurer Mitch Hambleton has made it clear it’s not big enough for both the DMV and driver’s licence station. It’s likely one of the two will be moving to a new location some time this year.
