Donna Wallace greets her long line of well-wishers.

The line to greet a long-time staff member of Adair County Iowa State University Extension and Outreach was nearly out the door. Extension staff, parents, youth, and alumni of Adair County 4-H and FFA came from miles around to wish outgoing 4-H and Youth Coordinator Donna Wallace a happy retirement. Wallace will be retiring, at the end of the month, after 23 years at Adair County Extension.

Wallace spoke with Raccoon Valley Radio and thanked those who helped her along the way. “I enjoyed the families, the kids. We have an outstanding extension council that supports our programs in Adair County. We’ve had staff members come and go but it’s always been good.”

Wallace was praised by her staff for running exceptionally organized and efficient 4-H and FFA activities at the Adair County Fair. Even though she won’t be quite in that capacity going forward, she’ll still be an active participant. “I have grandchildren that participate in the county fair, so we’ll be there. My husband’s on the swine committee (also) so we’ll be at the fair.”

Attendees enjoyed a soup and sandwich dinner, as well as cake, to celebrate the outgoing coordinator. The new 4-H and Youth Coordinator has not yet been determined.
